Same-Day Dental Bridges

Same-Day Dental Bridges
Many dentists offer same-day dental bridges, made with an in-office milling machine. The dentist will make digital impressions from the patient's mouth to create this kind of bridge. These impressions will transfer to a chairside computer, creating a three-dimensional model of the patient's smile. These images can be altered by the dentist to create a custom-made bridge. The design can be fed into a milling machine that works in a similar way to a 3-D printer. This machine can create a new bridge using a single block made of porcelain. As soon as the bridge is complete, the dentist can attach it to the patient's teeth. In just one visit, the patient could have a restored smile and functional teeth.
Crowns
Crowns are an important component of traditional dental bridges. However, single crowns can also repair surrounding damaged teeth. A crown is a cover for a damaged, cracked or internally stained tooth. A crown can also strengthen weak teeth or conceal a large cavity. Crowning is almost identical to placing a crown-supported dental bridge. The dentist will reshape the damaged tooth, take impressions, and attach the custom-fabricated crown. Like bridges, these restorations can be made of metal, porcelain-fused-to-metal, all-porcelain, or zirconia.

Fixed Bridge
A fixed bridge is the most common type of dental bridge as it provides a strong, durable way to replace one or two adjacent teeth.
A fixed bridge prosthesis consists of two crowns on each side, and either one or two artificial teeth in the middle. The crowns are hollow and fit over the neighboring teeth to secure the bridge in place.
In order for the crowns to fit properly, the anchor teeth must be filed down from their original size as part of the dental bridge procedure. These two teeth have to be strong enough to support the bridge and take the extra biting pressure. Dentists may perform root canal treatment on the anchor teeth before removing the necessary amount of enamel.
Your dentist will place your permanent bridge in your mouth once it is completed. You can then feel how it feels. Provided you're happy with the fit, your dentist will fix it in place using a strong dental cement. Sometimes, additional visits may be necessary to correct the fit.
Fixed bridges are strong and long-lasting. No one should be able notice that your porcelain or ceramic bridge is not natural if you choose it.
